Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't Mantel need an account with an email address?

Because we don't want to know anything about you. You get a random 16-digit account number that you also log in with. If you lose it, we can't recover it either.

Is Mantel an anonymous VPN?

Towards us, as far as possible: we know neither your name nor your email, and our database has no columns for IP addresses, connection times or visited sites. No VPN makes you fully anonymous: the server sees your IP address while you're connected, and websites still recognise you by logins and cookies.

What does Mantel store about me?

Only what the Account page of your dashboard shows in its data receipt, which you can also download as JSON: a hash of your account number, the expiry date, your settings, and a name and public key for each device. Our database has no columns for IP addresses, connection times or sites visited.

Which devices does Mantel run on?

There is an app for Android 8.0 or later. You download it as an APK straight from our download page, not from the Play Store. On Windows, Mac, iPhone or Linux, add a device in the dashboard and use its configuration with the official WireGuard app.

Does streaming work?

We can't promise it. Streaming services block VPN addresses regularly, and we don't rotate around them. Try it during the 7-day trial.

Will my internet get slower?

A little. Every VPN tunnel costs some throughput and ping, and WireGuard is one of the leaner protocols. How much you notice depends mostly on your connection and the distance to the server. The free trial is the best way to find out.

How do I pay? Can I use a voucher?

Mantel costs €5 per month. You renew with a voucher that you redeem in the dashboard. There's no subscription and no automatic renewal.

What does the quantum-resistant tunnel do?

It protects recorded traffic against later decryption by quantum computers: in addition to WireGuard's key exchange, the app and server agree on an extra key using ML-KEM-768. Encryption is still done by WireGuard, server authentication remains classical (X25519), and it does not help against attacks with a quantum computer during the connection. You turn it on in the app's settings (version 2026.0.1 and later, off by default). Locations that don't offer it yet are marked; there the app won't connect without quantum protection until you choose another location or turn the option off.
